Karlovy Vary festival hosting Iran’s ‘The Skin’

The 57th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) in the Czech Republic has been screening Iran’s ‘The Skin’.

The horror movie, co-directed by Bahman and Bahram Ark in Persian and Turkish languages, with English subtitles, is on screen at the 2023 edition of the Czech event.

‘The Skin’ that does not feature any well-known names and stars, is a dark fantasy folklore drama about love, magic and superstition.

It tells the story of Araz who lives at home with his mother, Marhamat, who is a witch.

When Araz discovers that she has enchanted him, preventing him from pursuing the woman he truly loves, he seeks assistance from the respected village elders.

As Araz strives to get rid of the spell and spends more time with his beloved, his mother begins to grow weaker, forcing him to decide between his heart and his conscience.

‘Skin’ went on screen at some global events, including the Minsk International Film Festival Listapad in Belarus and the Leeds International Film Festival in the UK.

The KVIFF is one of the oldest in the world and has become Central and Eastern Europe’s leading film event.

The festival unveiled its official selection, which comprises 33 films from five continents, screening across three sections, including Crystal Globe Competition and Special Screenings section.

The 2023 edition of the festival has been slated for June 30-July 8 in Karlovy Vary.
